Ferber was the best-selling, Pulitzer Prize winning female novelist in the first half of the 20th century. A friend of the Whites, Ferber was a frequent visitor to Red Rock. Average citizens would recognize her on the streets of Emporia. Sallie telegrammed Ferber asking her to meet WAW at the train in Chicago to tell him that Mary had died. Publishing credits include: Show Boat, So Big, Cimarron, Giant, among many other books, plays and screenplays.
